Materials Scientist/Metallurgist/Corrosion Advisor
For Army Aviation Corrosion Control

Description:  AVNIK Defense Solutions, Inc. is seeking experienced, degreed Engineers (from an ABET accredited institution) to support an Army Aviation Rotary Wing Corrosion Control Process Action Team (PAT) position in Huntsville, AL.  Overall objectives are to reduce soldier burden, increase aircraft availability, enhance safety, and reduce Operational & Support costs.
Specific Duties: 
  • Successful candidate will provide fulltime on-site support to manage/coordinate the Corrosion Control PAT, provide engineering expertise/support, and have thorough knowledge of various forms of corrosion and their identification along with monitoring and mitigation methods. 
  • Interface with Army Project Office and provide expert advice regarding materials applications, materials qualification, and manufacturing processes for developmental systems and modifications of existing fleet platforms. 
  • Provide engineering support to develop, implement, and sustain a program for the management of corrosion control and prevention in compliance with industry engineering practices/codes, regulations, and specifications, including as appropriate:  Corrosion monitoring, Corrosion inhibition/chemical treatments, prevention, use of corrosion resistant alloys and non-metallic materials, and protective coatings, wraps and linings.  
  • Provide oversight of specification compliance, inspection data, field surveys, and corrosion data.  Coordinate technical reports, memoranda and other work products associated with System and Component Qualification Test Plans, Test Witness, Test Report review.
  • Coordinate corrosion/materials risk assessments to identify all associated hazards and threats to the asset integrity.  Provide materials and corrosion expertise input to equipment inspection strategies and procedures. 
  • Coordinate and provide engineering support for evaluation of equipment damage and failures to determine impact and incorporate lessons learned into the materials selection and corrosion management program. 
  • Provide support for Vendor Oversight Quality Audits and Process Engineering.  Ensure corrective action relating to Material Integrity are followed through and closed out in a timely manner.  
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/ university in a recognized Technology Engineering discipline or related technical field is required.  4+ years of related experience is required. 
Requirements: 
  • U.S Citizenship is required.  Must be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance.  Possession of an INTERIM SECRET security clearance is required to begin employment; Ability to maintain a SECRET security clearance is required for continued employment.
  • Ability to successfully complete Background Investigation to include; 50 State Criminal, Education, Employment, Credit and Driving Records Checks for continued employment
  • Ability to travel 10% or less.
  • Professionally represent AVNIK Defense Solutions, Inc. in all activities, meetings and deliverables.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Army Aviation Aircraft Systems experience.  Certificates, such as, American Welding Society (AWS), Risk Based Inspection (RBI), Coating, Non Destructive Test (NDT) and any other Certificates related to Inspection are Preference.  Has sound knowledge of international codes/standards applicable to inspection (ASTM, ASME, NACE, ANSI, etc,).   Had attended related NACE corrosion courses with NACE membership with major technical contributors in studies and research. AVNIK is an Equal Opportunity Employer and offers competitive salary/benefits package.  Salary commensurate with experience/degree.
